Time to rebuild
In this first talk of a new preaching series, we begin exploring the book of Nehemiah. Nehemiah was called by God to be a rebuilder of the city of Jerusalem after the exile, and we will use this Bible narrative to consider how the people of God are always called to participate in building the Kingdom of God: God’s rule and reign in the lives of human beings. We are always participants in the story in which we find ourselves and in this chapter, we see how Nehemiah is moved by the plight of the city and spends time mourning, praying and fasting. We consider the challenge to spend time in a place of lament and prayer when we see suffering in our own time.
